Cocoa Products
Through the knowledge and imagination of the ADM Cocoa Product Support and Development (PSD) teams, centred at Koog aan de Zaan, the Netherlands, the diverse demands of new product concepts are matched with the right ingredient solution. These are often very complex formulation problems but our PSD groups have the breadth of understanding and the many years of experience to solve even the most demanding challenges. Their particular areas of expertise include cocoa and chocolate products for baked goods, ice cream, dairy products, cereals, confectionery and dry and instant mixes.

Wheat Flours
The ADM Milling Technical Centre is situated near Bristol, UK and is a centre of excellence for cereals analysis and baking technology. There is a bakery which is fully equipped, and staffed by qualified bakers and food technologists. Bakery processes from the artisan to the industrial scale can be replicated. A support service is available to work with customers on new product development, range extension, trouble-shooting and recipe development, along with a computer-based recipe service.
Specialty Oils & Fats
- Germany The ADM Noblee Technical Centre, located in Hamburg, Germany, provides the latest technical solutions and guidance on oils and fats systems for a wide range of applications - chocolate confectionery, bakery products, savoury snacks, margarine, dairy alternatives and nutritional products. With its experienced staff, and advanced pilot plant and analytical equipment, ADM Noblee can provide customized product solutions that optimise functionality, nutrition and cost. The group is responsive to market trends and its customers’ needs, and some of its expertise is shared in training courses and seminars.
- UK To support the Pura Foods oils and fats business, there is a purpose-built ‘state of the art’ Quality and Development Centre (QDC) located in Belvedere, near London, UK. The facility supports new product development with a small-scale refinery (including chemical and enzymatic interesterification) and hardening plant (giving product samples up to 100 kg), and a small-scale scrape surface plant. In addition to analytical and physical testing laboratories, the site has a test kitchen and bakery, a research library and sensory evaluation panel. The QDC has links with several institutions for both legal and emerging issues, and the information arising forms part of the communication with customers.
- France SIO’s Technical Group, located in Arras, France comprises experienced engineers and chemists highly specialised in fats and oils for food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications. They operate a wide range of advanced pilot plant systems and the latest analytical equipment. All this enables the SIO team to propose tailor-made products that exactly fit the customer’s demand for functionality, nutrition and purity. Members of the group have been taking part in the scientific committee of the French Institute for Fats and Oils (ITERG), the French Committee for Standards (AFNOR) and the European Pharmacopoeia Commission.
USA
At the ADM US Headquarters are located very extensive R & D facilities, pilot plant operations and product development facilities as well as the Culinary Center and a Sensory Advisory Panel.
