2007 Highlights
-
ADM received the 2007 Global Ecomagination Leadership Award from GE for our work in water reduction at the Decatur, Illinois, corn processing plant. More than a decade ago, we implemented a sustainable water management program – conserving over 1.5 billion gallons of water each year and realizing $1 million USD in annual operational savings.
-
90 ADM colleagues participated in 13 river clean ups and tree plantings with
Living Lands & Waters.
-
A founding partner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Combined Heat and Power Program, ADM advanced construction on several co-generation facilities to help power ADM processing plants in 2007. Co-generation facilities are more energy efficient than traditional forms of power generation, and thereby reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants.

ADM deeply values the Earth’s productive capacity and works to lessen our impact on the environment. The ADM Way, ADM’s foundational statement of values, includes a commitment to “the protection of the environment in all areas where we conduct operations.” The implementation of this commitment is a primary management objective and the responsibility of all ADM colleagues.
With resourcefulness and passion, we are focused on efficiently using water resources and minimizing the impact of our operations on the air.
The Office of Compliance & Ethics, which includes a group of environmental experts, assures the Company’s actions are aligned with this commitment. Colleagues in the Office of Compliance & Ethics perform environmental audits; develop training programs, compliance systems and self-assessment procedures; issue advisories about new regulations; participate in industry groups to learn best practices; provide emissions measurement services to plants; and identify opportunities for the Company to enhance our stewardship.
With the work of the Office of Compliance & Ethics and the actions of ADM colleagues, ADM is translating this commitment into action.
